RE-Elect Michael Alvarez Benton County Commissioner Dist.2 Current Chairman of the Benton County Board of Commissioners
CHALLENGES FACING BENTON COUNTY TODAY & IN THE FUTURE
For a Safe, Affordable & Prosperous Benton County!
Balanced Budget & Financial Challenges: Benton County is facing significant economic and financial challenges now and in the years ahead. State and federal funding cuts continue to impact counties across Washington, leaving Benton County and others working hard to find new ways to support essential public services.
I am the only candidate—and the only elected official in this race—with both the education and the extensive financial and business experience necessary to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and effectively. My focus is on preventing wasteful spending and avoiding unnecessary tax increases.
Maintaining a balanced budget during this period is essential to keeping Benton County’s public services strong and sustainable. I will apply my leadership experience and qualifications to safeguard the county’s financial health and position us for long‑term success.
I have a proven track record of saving taxpayers millions of dollars, and I am committed to continuing that work on behalf of Benton County residents.
Compare my opponents qualifications, experience and track record against mine and see who you would like to manage your tax dollars!
Employment: Competition among counties across Washington is fierce as we work to recruit major employers to our counties. Benton County has some of the most skilled labor in the country, and we must begin planning now to attract more businesses as we look beyond the Hanford cleanup project.
I want our young people to have opportunities right here at home. Students who choose a career in the skilled trades should have access to apprenticeships and well‑paying jobs in Benton County so they can stay close to their families. Likewise, students who go to college and graduate should have the option to return and build successful careers in our community.
Our county—and the cities within it—are extremely important to me. I will work tirelessly to strengthen and sustain a healthy local economy that supports strong job growth and long‑term prosperity for Benton County.
Growth: Benton County is growing at a fast pace. Smart economic development is essential to Benton Counties future success and quality of life. We must be smart when approving the development of commercial and residential property. This is key to maintaining our great quality of life here in Benton County!
I support our Farmers and the Agriculture Industry: My grandfather was a rancher near Stillwater Oklahoma. I spent a lot of time on the ranch and going to live stock auctions, herding cattle etc… Many of my friends are in the Ag. Industry. I will continue to work hard to support our farmers and ranchers here in Benton County. We must also support and protect their water rights!
Public Safety: Public safety has always been, and will continue to be, a top priority of mine!. Benton County is well‑known across Washington State as a safe place to live and raise a family, supported by a strong and reliable public safety system.
I have helped to strengthen resources for local law enforcement, the Office of Public Defense, the Prosecutor’s Office, courtroom security, and modern equipment and technology to ensure a high standard of safety for our community here in Benton County. In addition, I have supported Benton County to invest in a Mental Health and Substance Abuse Recovery Center to support individuals and families in need.
While ongoing state budget reductions continue to challenge the funding of local public safety programs, it is more important than ever to proactively identify and secure available state and federal resources to maintain a safe community now and in the future.
I remain committed to working collaboratively with local partners to continually improve public safety and enhance the well‑being of everyone who calls Benton County home.
Affordable Housing: Finding solutions to provide more affordable housing for our younger generation and families is very important to me. My 30+ years in mortgage lending and my background as a real estate master instructor gives me the qualifications and experience needed to tackle this issue and make more affordable housing a reality.
Homelessness: I want to continue to improve upon the Benton Franklin Counties 10-year plan to end homelessness. Not only will this help families in need it will provide immediate housing alternatives to individuals sleeping on the streets. This is a critical issue we need to address and be more pro-active in our stance here in Benton County. I will continue to work hard on this growing issue here in Benton County.
How Can I Help With These Continued Issues?
Finance: I have over 30 years of extensive Financial and Business experience! I have been a Richland City Councilman, the past Mayor of the city Richland and now your Benton County Commissioner. I have the experience needed from both the private sector in business and in government. I have helped balance budgets for corporations, cities and counties. I have a proven track record of saving millions of dollars for the tax payers of Benton County. I will continue to work hard to maintain a balanced budget while working to reduce wasteful spending. I will use my experience to keep Benton County on a healthly financial path and work hard to keep our taxes low!!!
Employment: I have a bachelors in “HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT”. I speak the language of employers looking to relocate. I also understand and respect our skilled labor work force. I will continue to work hard to recruit new large employers to Benton County creating new job opportunities to take advantage of our skilled and professional workforce!
